ICRI began working in Chile in 2000. ICRI’s Senior Consultant Marianela Soto Hurtado, a Chilena who is an expert in child sexual abuse and children’s mental health, identified a need for increased sensitization and training on child sexual abuse in Chile. ICRI was invited by the Servicio Nacional de Menores (SENAME) to provide training on sexual abuse at child abuse treatment centers throughout the country.

Prevention and Treatment of Child Sexual Abuse

Working in partnership with the National Ministry of Justice and SENAME, ICRI provides in-depth training on child sexual abuse to psychologists, social workers, teachers, lawyers, and a range of other professionals working with abused children in Chile. ICRI has also worked directly with residential treatment centers throughout the country to create specialized therapeutic services for sexually-abused children.

Due to the great demand for these trainings, we have developed partnerships with several Chilean universities and NGOs in order to provide additional advanced training and supervision to professionals working with abused and exploited children. We are currently developing a new Institute for Advanced Study in the Treatment of Children, which will further extend our work on behalf of abused and at-risk children in Chile and throughout Latin America.

• Over 700 professionals working with abused children in Chile have received advanced training on child sexual abuse.
• ICRI has assisted over 115 Chilean residential treatment centers in creating specialized therapeutic services for sexually-abused children.
